Big shout out to the Austin High Boy's Basketball Team, coached by Brad Ingram. The team and Coach Ingram organized a shoe collection at the Maroon Classic Basketball Tournament and a Varsity game. Shoes were then distributed at a local Austin area Middle School on the last day before Christmas break. The remaining shoes will be distributed in Mexico at the first of the year. Thanks Austin High Boys' Basketball Team and Coach Ingram.
The Highland Park Elementary School has an annual Cinco de Mayo fun run. Coordinator Heather Powell utilized this event to organize a collection for ShoeForTwo. Over 50 pairs of shoes were received. 20 pairs have already been sent to Cuba. A shipment of basketball shoes is being organized for Sao Paulo Brasil and we are in the planning stages for our first shipment to Africa. Highland Park's sharing and caring will soon be brining joy to kids the worl over. Thank you Heather!
Mobile Loaves and Fishes
ShoesForTwo is happy to distribute good quality basketball shoes to kids in Austin through Mobile Loaves and Fishes.
Lake Travis Basketball has a tradition of giving back to the community. With assistance from Coach Baty, Head Coach Boys Basketball, and Coach Hinson, Head Coach Girls Basketball, over 50 pairs of good quality basketball shoes were collected. These shoes were distributed to an orphanage in Reynosa Mexico over Thanksgiving 2015. See Rio Bravo Ministries below for photos.
Shoe distribution in Reynosa, Mexico
ShoesForTwo distributed shoes at the Casa Hogar orphanage, part of the Rio Bravo Ministries, in Reynosa Mexico over Thanskgiving 2015. The kids loved the shoes! Thank you Lake Travis Basketball programs for providing the shoes, and thank you Doug Lawyer for organizing the trip and for all you do for the kids in Reynosa.
The Northwest Austin Youth Basketball Association (www.nwayba.org) is one of Austin's premier youth basketball organizations with more than 700 participants. NWAYBA collected over 60 pairs of basketball shoes at their venues across Austin for ShoesForTwo just in time for our Christmas distribution. Special thanks to Stuart Wade for heading up the effort, and to the Board of Directors, lead by Matt Domsch, for their participation.
Del Valle Middle School
Del Valle Middle School hosted ShoesForTwo just before the bell rang for Christmas break. Many of the kids went home wearing neat shoes, and others took shoes home in a box to put under the tree. Special thanks to Principals Cruz and Price for inviting us to their campus. We look forward to coming back next year!
ACTION Cuba is very grateful for our partnership with Shoes For Two. Being able to provide excellent quality tennis shoes is a door-opener as we minister to those who are in real need.
In Cuba, it costs a whole month’s salary to buy a pair of tennis shoes — if you can find one in your size! You can imagine how stressful it is for parents of two or three children to provide shoes and clothing for their family.
So, when we take shoes down there it brings a smile to the faces of the children, and the parents, and it really is a door-opener for us to express our love and concern to them in a very practical and material way.
We are very grateful that we have the assistance and support of Shoes for Two and we are greatly looking forward to taking a lot of pairs of shoes to Cuba and giving them out during the course of our ministry.
